Questions about Party

Hi! We are Tomona and Yoko!

Our topic is about ‘PARTY’ in each country. Especially, we pointed Valentine’s Day.

We think that Valentine is celebrated differently in America.

In Japan, girls give chocolates for favorite boys as main event. So, for girls, Valentine’s Day is chance to tell him that ‘I like you’. On this day girls approach boys, while boys just wait.

How about in America?

What is main event in your country?

Do you know about the origin of Valentine’s Day?

Do you date with your boyfriend or girlfriend on Valentine’s Day?

  1. In America, the boys are the one that are suppose to give girls chocolate, flowers and gifts. Gurls give gifts too but girls value Valentine's Day alot more usually than boys. Boys are suppose to take out girls or do something for them to show that they like them. Valentines is very romantic for Americans. I know that Valentine's Day is named after St. Valentine and how he was a martyr but I'm not sure if I remeber the whole story. Couples go out on Valentine's Day, usually to a nice dinner and some sort of surprise the guy plans but it varies based on each couple.

  2. In America, Valentines day is a very commercial holiday but is celebrated by couples as a way of recognizing the love between the two. The man is expected to make plans and give the woman the gifts because typically women are more into that sweet stuff and guys aren't. Guys know that their woman appreciates things like that and valentines Day is his chance to show her how much he cares. They often go out to dinner or do other romantic activities.

  3. The guys are usually expected to take charge on Valentine's day. The girls expect chocolates, flower, cards, stuffed animals, etc. The guys are the ones that make the plans and pay for dinner if they go out.

I personally think that Valentine's day is overrated. I dont think that any certain gender should be in charge of things, both should do things that show they care.

  4. In the United States, Valentines Day is normally a day that is celebrated universally by both men and women. Unlike traditions in your country, the men are normally expected to take charge and get something for their girlfriends, or maybe just someone they like. The day is used to celebrate the love between two people, so in general couples will either go out to a romantic restaurant or do something together that has special meaning.

  5. Valentine's Day is a very specialized holiday in the US. It is a day that allows for couples to celebrate their romance. Men normally take the initiative with giving gifts and chocolates.
I'm not very familiar with the origins of the holiday.
It is very customary for couples to go on romantic dates on this holiday.

  6. Valentine's Day is very different here in America. The boy is usually resposible for getting the flowers or candy for their girlfriend or wife. The main event would be a romantic dinner and spend time with eachother. I am not really sure of the origins but I do know that alot of people do not consider it a real holiday and think it is all a corperate ploy to sell cards and candy.

  7. Valentine's Day is one of my favorite holidays. Typically, men get women gifts. The gifts are things like flowers, stuffed animals, candy, or even jewlerly. I always go on a date with my boyfriend on Valentines Day. He will usually surprise me, and get me a few gifts. Also, we will go out to dinner at our favorite restaurant. I know that all of these things could happen on any other day of the year, but it is nice to have a day to really appreciate the relationship I have with my boyfriend. This is why Valentine's Day is one of my favorite holidays.

  8. In the U.S Valentines Day is a very romantic holiday. Usually the men take the women they like or love out on dates and give them gifts to show how they feel about the woman. These dates typically consist of dinners and then other activities throughout the night. Common gifts are flowers, chocolates or jewelry. I do not know where the origin of Valentines Day came from but many people feel like it is a Hallmark holiday just to earn money, I do not personally think that. On Valentines Day if there is a girl that I like or am dating I will take them out to dinner and a movie or something else to show them how I feel.

    Thank you for your comments!

We understood that Valentine's Day is important for girls than boys as an event. For boys, Valentine's Day is chance to show his affection for girls. Girls can feel that how much he cares her.

We thought that Valentine's Day in America is same as Christmas or anniversary of something in Japan. Girls look forward to getting some presents and dinner.

Do you know these difference about Valentine's Day between America and Japan?
In America, what is difference between Valentine's Day and Christmas?

What do you do on Christmas Day?

  10. I have to say I feel Valentine's Day is overrated, I feel that appreciation and love should be shown everyday not just one special day. For Valentine's day the boy usually does all the paying for the flowers etc. and girls always expect it.
